Vintage convex and concave distorting mirror - 20th
Measures : 62x6cm H: 86cm
Material : Beveled Vintage Mirror - black painted wooden frame and silver painted border.
This is a classic distorting mirror, often called a fairground mirror or deceptive mirror.
How it works: Unlike standard flat mirrors, this mirror uses curved surfaces to manipulate light: the convex parts (curving outward) diffuse the light rays, making reflections appear smaller or larger.
The concave parts (curving inward) concentrate the light, which can stretch an image to make it appear larger. Complex distortions are created by combining these different curves on the same surface to produce playful and exaggerated proportions.
Art and design: Contemporary designers, such as Julien Vidame, design them as high-end wall art and conversation pieces.
