With Mandela's death, a symbol of the struggle for emancipation has entered history. Or rather, it has made a comeback.
Billy Gibula ( is an incredibly passionate and versatile painter from Kinshasa, whose love for art blossomed at a young age. He has always been captivated by the world of painting, dreaming of becoming an artist since he was 11 years old. Like many talented Congolese painters, Billy is part of the popular painting school of Kinshasa. His journey to becoming a painter was truly unique; he didn’t attend the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa but instead dedicated every spare moment to painting. One fateful day, he encountered Jean Claude Lofenia Mpoo, a renowned painter from Kinshasa, on the street, and Jean Claude became his mentor.Focused on capturing the spirit of Congolese cultural heritage, peace, and love, Billy skillfully brings his subjects to life through vibrant oil-on-canvas portrait paintings. His distinctive backgrounds create an enchanting atmosphere, transporting viewers to the heart of Congo.Billy is also an active member of the kitokongo community, contributing significantly to its thriving and dynamic atmosphere. His dedication and passion play a crucial role in making the community a wonderful space for artists and artisans.
