An antique mechanical reel (often called a "wrap reel" or "yarn reel") dating from the late 19th century, used in the textile industry to measure yarn length and produce skeins.
Structure and components: A large spoked wheel (the reel itself) operated by a hand crank to wind the yarn over a precise circumferential distance; a comb or rack with vertical pins on the side to guide and keep the yarns parallel; and a counting mechanism with a bell to indicate the number of revolutions made.
